To whomever it may concern,             Recently, I became a member of rushcard within the last 2 months and I have to say I have been very upset ever since.  The reason for becoming a rushcard member is to show that I support “my people” in everything we do cause that’s the only way we make sure everyone is moving forward.  Let me make you aware of some of the issues that I have had just in these past 2 months.  On August 1, 2008 for whatever reason the systems were down and I wasn’t able to access any of my funds.  This is something that I feel is unacceptable for a customer to not have access to their funds.  To add matters worst this happened on the 1st of the month when all bills are due, so of course my rent was not paid on time, I had to borrow money to get back and forth to work because I didn’t have any gas what so ever in my vehicle.  This wouldn’t be a problem if I was the type to always carry cash but I find carry cash to be careless so I rely on my check/debt card for access to my funds.  The situation just escalated and went down hill from there.  After going to 3 gas stations trying to figure out why my card was working thinking that this was a gas station issue I began to call rushcard 866 number.  I repeatly called 1-866-766-2229 to receive the busy signal for 2 hours straight.  When I finally got through to the automative system I was place on hold for another hour.  I spoke with someone who explained to me the issue and said they didn’t know what happened with the system and also didn’t know how long it would take for the systems to start working again.  This all started approximately around 11:45 am and I had to be at work for 2pm.  I continued trying to access my funds up until because I had to pay my rent and put gas in my car to even get to work.. Due to this problem I was late for work, had to ask a manager to pay for a taxi for me so I could get to work.  That is a very embarrassing feeling.  So to add insult to injury, when I spoke with the lady over the phone I asked to speak with her manager I waited for another 45 mins for a manager we spoke on the phone and she was very rude, acted as if she really didn’t care and eventually she hung up on me after I continued to stress to her that this is a issue that I feel should have some sort of compensation for the fee’s I got hit with for not paying two of my bills on time and my taxi ride from and to work.  After the manager hung up on me, every time after that when I would try to call and finally get through once I would get to the option to speak to someone they would pick up the phone and hang it up.  I think this is very unprofessional of your employees and I have never been treated like this as a customer.  I thought I was doing something right by supporting the Russell Simmons rushcard because his name holds a lot of power in my house hold and I have just been very disappointed with the card since I became a member.  Another problem I tend to have a lot is my card declines a lot when I know there are funds in my account.  This happens especially when trying to use my card to pay for gas so this then forces me to use a ATM that will charge me because I am a new Orleans resident and there’s only your rushcard ATMS in Wal-Mart’s and there hasn’t been one build around my neighborhood after Katrina.  I was just wondering what would you do about this if you were a customer experiencing these issues.  I work in sales and have been for a while I know how things work and I am also aware that these problems occur but what will you do as a company to keep your customers happy or to try to recover from this.  If you came up with nothing but a I’m sorry, which is not something I even had a chance to hear from the manager, she seemed so aggravated by the many phone calls that were probably made that day “which is once again not my concern or problem, I’m the customer”.  But if nothing can be done can someone please email me the info to close my account.  This is a problem that I would like resolved soon and I really don’t want to be lost in the loops again!!! SO PLEASE DON’T DISREGARD MY EMAIL, I HAVE FELT THAT WAY ONCE BEFORE FROM THE RUSHCARD EMPLOYEES.I can be contacted via email AmbrosiaR0711@yahoo.com

Dear Mr. Simmons, This is from the heart.I have been a Rush Card member for over a year now and there has been nothing but problems.  I believe in good people and in hip hop, and the advancement of not only black people, but the the hard working middle class as a whole.  This, along with having less than satisfactory credit, is my sole purpose for being an avid rush card supporter.  The problem is, Rush Card does not feel the same way about its patrons. For the second time, I've made a transaction to pay my rent, (which is NOT payed and I am getting hit with all sorts of late fees for) and for an "unknown reason" to me, or Rush Card when I call up there, it has been declined, despite the transaction going through on the other end.  I also cleaerly had more than enough money in my account to make this transaction.  Here's the problem: EVEN THOUGH THE TRANSACTION WAS DECLINED, THERE IS STILL A PENDING TRANSACTION ON MY ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 300$!  I do not have access to this money.  Every time I call and talk to one of your HORRIBLE customer service reps, they DO NOT fully understand and keep giving me these scripted responses.  They tell me to get the merchant in question to fax over a merchant release of funds form and the funds will be released into my account within 1-3 hrs.  The problem is, THE MERCHANT DID NOT DECLINE THE TRANSACTION, RUSH CARD DID!  And they did it for an unknown reason.  So when I contact the merchant, they say,"well sir, we can't authorize a release of funds because the transaction never went through on RUSHCARD's behalf. THEY DECLINED IT FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON."  Therefore, leaving my HARD EARNED money sitting in RUSHCARD's system for their discretion.  Mr. Simmons, I do NOT have millions, thousands, or even hundreds of dollars.  In fact, after that, I dont even have 20$ to my name.  I still have to save my change and go to the coinstar machine when it piles up.  I'm a broke college student/waiter who works hard at acheiving his goals, but Rush Card is literally holding me back.  I am on the brink of eviction because of Rush Card and I know that you could NOT be aware of these things because you don't seem like that kind of businessman.  You seem to be genuine and sincere about helping people.  After my funds get released back in to my account (which could take weeks)  I will still be in debt from the late fees and other charges from not being able to pay rent and this is literally ALL RUSHCARD'S FAULT.   I am not a sheister  trying to get over, I am a sincere guy who's life is being screwed over because RUSHCARD is unrightfully holding my hard earned money in their system.   IN CONCLUSION,Mr. Simmons, This is a cry for help.  Help me, the rest of your rush card users and yourself by actually doing good business.  I love what you've done for hiphop, and I'm sure my lowly opinion doesn't matter to you much, but if everyone knew what kind of business Rush Card REALLY is, then they would form a different opinion of you for being the face of this company.  I'm struggling trying to keep my head above water Mr. Simmons, and the LAST thing that I need is for my "BANK" to aid in helping me drown.  Please contact me as soon as possible if that is possible.  If not, again I love what you've done for hip hop and for everyone as a whole, but you will have completely lost a die-hard supporter of Russell Simmons.Sincerely, Duane GrantP: 765-409-2460E: duanefgrant@gmail.com

**URGENT** Hello Mr. Simmons.I too have a passion for fashion! I recently came up with some fashion drawings that are very modern  and fresh. They are great ideas that would be marketable and profitable in the Urban and Hip Hop industries.I know that they will make a fortune.I know that everyone would be interested in wearing these new and creative styles.I am searching now for a design patent lawyer but the start up cost for everything is very expensive.  I recently lost my second job in which I was relying on this income to help start a business.I contacted you becuse I admire you and you being a fashion icon I was wondering if I could set up a meeting with you.To see if you would be interested in my ideas or to just give me your professional opinion.Help you will not ber disappointed Brenda Mitchell 160 Helen Dr Middletown NY 10940.

Biography

Russell Simmons (born October 4, 1957 in Queens, New York), is an American entrepreneur, the co-founder, with Rick Rubin, of the pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam, founder of another label, Russell Simmons Music Group, and creator of the clothing fashion line Phat Farm and the fragrance label Atman.

Russell Simmons is the younger brother of Daniel "Danny" Simmons, Jr and he is the older brother of Rev. Joseph Simmons, better known as "Run" of Run-DMC, and son of Daniel Simmons, Sr, a public school administrator. His brother Daniel "Danny" Simmons, Jr is an accomplished abstract artist.

Since May 2005 he has been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post.

Russell Simmons is the third richest hip hop entrepreneur, having a net-worth estimate of $340 million. He is only behind Jay-Z at $547M, and P Diddy at $358M.

Simmons attended City College of New York but left his studies to begin promoting local rap music acts, including Kurtis Blow and Run-DMC (whom he would later sign to his record label), and producing records. In 1984, he met Rick Rubin and they founded Def Jam Records, signing the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy and other acts.

Personal

Russell is a vegan and practicies yoga.

He married Kimora Lee Simmons on December 20, 1998 on Caribbean island of St. Bart's with his Pentecostal minister brother Joseph Simmons officiating.

Simmons officially filed for divorce in March 2006, releasing a statement saying: ' the couple have been separated "for some time," but have continued living under the same roof'.

The Simmons' have two daughters named Ming Lee Simmons (born January 21, 2000) and Aoki Lee Simmons (born August 16, 2002). Both Ming Lee and Aoki Lee model for Baby Phat Kids Collection.

The former couple's 49,000 square-foot Saddle River, New Jersey mansion is for sale at $23,888,000. Located 25 miles northwest of Manhattan, the 1996 built palace is one of the largest homes on the East Coast.

In 2004 Russell sold Phat Farm to Kellwood Company for $140 million dollars. Kimora--who was already Creative Director of Baby Phat-- was promoted by Kellwood to President and Creative Director of Phat Fashions.

Charity

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Simmons joined 22 other top executives in the apparel and home fashions industry to form Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation, Inc. to unify the apparel and home fashions industry to donate new product to help needy individuals and families who fell victim to one of the USA's worst natural disaster. In supporting the new charity, Phat Farm underwrote a t-shirt design contest with 100% of the proceeds going to Fashion Delivers.

Politics

In May 2007, Simmons has considered endorsement of Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinich for the 2008 U.S. presidential election, but seems much more interested in John Edwards as the election gets closer.

Def Jam

Def Jam became just one piece in Simmons' corporation, Rush Communications, which included a management company, a clothing company called Phat Farm, a movie production house, television shows such as Def Comedy Jam, a magazine, and an advertising agency. Simmons sold his stake in the record company for $100 million to Universal Music Group in 1999. The up and coming component of Rush Communications is the sneaker company Run Athletics, a company that produces the Legacy and Arthur Ashe shoes.

Other Projects

Recently, Simmons brought his show Def Poetry to Broadway as a live show, earning awards for the youthful and multicultural cast.

Simmons, in partnership with a financial institution, released a line of re-loadable Visa debit cards aimed at consumers who would otherwise have problems obtaining a credit card account. These prepaid cards include the RushCard and the Baby Phat RushCard.

In July 2006, Simmons, in addition to other members of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, was named a Goodwill Ambassador of CISRI-ISP. According to the press release, Simmons' appointment will help "launch an awareness campaign utilizing hip-hop as a vehicle to address war, poverty and HIV/AIDS, in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals as well as the CISRI-ISP fight against severe poverty and malnutrition. On August 24,2006, Simmons hosted a reception in support of Republican United States Senate candidate from Maryland, Michael Steele . In December 2006, Simmons was criticized for claims that he made following a tour organized by De Beers, of Botswana's Jwaneng mine, one of the world's richest diamond mines. This was part of a nine day, three country trip through Africa. Some expressed concern that this was part of a larger public relations effort organized by De Beers to counter expected controversies following the release of the movie Blood Diamond. Simmons' response was that he felt too much focus has been put on "conflict diamonds" and that his job was "to take what's good and make it better". Russell Simmons also is a U.S. board of directors for Upliftment Jamaica (www.upliftmentjamaica.org) an organization started by Gary Foster, Vice President of Rush Communication which seeks to empower impoverished communities throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Simmons has since gained attention by calling for the removal of the words 'nigga', 'bitch' and 'ho' from the "clean" radio edited versions of rap songs.

In July 2007, Simmons, frustrated that the Howard Stern Show would not book him as a guest to promote his recent book, vented on the Jay Thomas radio show by bad mouthing Stern show producer Gary Dell'Abate. When Stern heard this, he called Simmons and immediately booked Simmons for the show on July 24, 2007 to talk about this. The two are now friends.

In 2007, it's rumored that Simmons met in Detroit with filmmaker, producer, entertainment business consultant Dionciel Armstrong to discuss his plans to buy a stake in Armstrong's Rap Files Enterprises, Inc. that produces a monthly newspaper, dvd series, and internet video magazine to produce a "Nigga Free" publication. Dionciel hasn't made a decision to partner with Simmons but the two have plans to partner in film, business, and publications in the future.
